Well, we didn't know each other when we were 22 but Red would chalk that up to "artistic license" or "poetic justice"

Red also never had kids of his own, but in this song he did and maybe the kids were my sons, whom he loved and treated as though they were his own; he played golf with them, he played music with them, he drank with them, hell, he even gave them advice.

So, in the song, the kids are gone and they've moved on. Now, they (we) are alone to live their (our) lives. They've had their ups and downs. They still believe in each other and are working things out.

Sounds like a working relationship...Red's and mine was...
it wasn't easy, especially with both of our lives working on the road. As long as we kept the lines of communication open, we could work through anything. Love conquers all, or something like that.

Oh, and we always took a blanket with us when we went for a walk in the woods.
We had alot of great walks:)
