As with 3 of the other songs on this CD, the first time I heard it was about 4 months after his death, when I finally got up enough nerve to get his recording machine out and listen to what was on it.
I think the first 2 lines describe Red quite well, he loved his beer and he loved me...of course, his music, his golf, his fishing, flying planes and building guitars all held a close 3rd place.
Notice I was in second place:)
In this song, he tells the world he realizes he has everything he wants in life, he's exactly where he wants to be. He truly enjoyed his life and lived it to the fullest.
In this song he sings about all our really good friends and the beautiful places they let us stay... he wants to thank them one and all, at each and every port of call...
Those of you who know us know we spent most of our loves on the road. Much of that time was spent house sitting, people sitting, pet sitting or just hanging out with really great folks watching a sunset somewhere over a bay.
I am glad Red can thank all our friends from the other side-and it reminds me to thank you all again as well. Thanks for the memories !
This song definitely brought tears to my eyes when I heard it come out of his ZOOM recorder, how he missed me, how he loved me and how we were going to run away.... I think for the first time since he died I became angry with him. "Why didn't you let me hear this when you were alive?" I cried out in pain. This isn't usually like me but I know anger is part of grieving.
Of course, as soon as I said that, to the recorder, I realized, he couldn't let anyone hear this music. He was such a perfectionist, he wouldn't allow anyone to hear anything he had recorded until it was perfect.
And it was never perfect enough for him.
Of course, I forgave him immediately when I began to think of how he was, how he wouldn't release these songs cause they didn't sound exactly the way he wanted them to sound.
By the way,
A psychic friend of mine said Red came through and wanted to give a message to all the musicians on this earth plane, "Playing music is great. It always sounds just like it is supposed to and there's lot's of it."
Listening to this song brings back all the memories of all the fun we have had on all the bays of the world, getting tans all over:)
What a wonderful life we had together.
Naked By the Bay is the title cut of Red's first post-humus CD.
NAKED BY THE BAY L.Seidman c2008
There's nothin better in life,
Than an ice cold beer and a beautiful wife,
In a picture perfect sunset, every day.
I've got it all right here, it's all so perfectly clear.
That this is where I wanna stay.
Naked by the bay,
Naked by the bay.
I've got some really good friends,
And it's a lucky thing, 'cause my life depends,
On all of the beautiful places they let us stay.
I want to thank 'em one and all,
At each and every port of call.
This is where I wanna stay,
Naked by the bay.
Naked by the bay.
I guess I'd say I miss you most,
When we're both runnin' round
From coast to coast.
I think about grabbin' you and runnin' away.
'N take you to that special place
Where we found our love, face to face.
And see if we can take a little time to play.
Naked by the bay.
Naked by the bay.
Naked by the bay.
Naked by the bay.
What do you say, what do you say.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Naked by the bay.
Let's get away, let's get away.
Yeah baby.
