I remember the first time I heard this song. We were house sitting on Summerland Key and Red was sitting in the middle of the "great room"- he loved the acoustics of the tile floors and the wood ceiling. I was at the island in the kitchen and I said, "Honey, I never heard you play that song before".
Red answered, "That's cause I just made it up". He played it a couple more times to imprint it in his memory and after he stopped for a moment I asked him what he had been thinking of when the melody came out his fingertips. He said, "Back home at the mountain in Georgia".
That's where I started spreading his ashes, cause that was where he loved the most. Oh, he loved the islands, mon, and he loved New England and he loved our new place on the Suwannee River, but the house at the mountain in Georgia was "Back Home".
Instrumental, but if there were words, they would be quietly sung within this hauntingly beautiful melody...
